President Trump said earlier today (Saturday) that he wants a “strong Europe” and that the U.S. is willing to help Europe achieve that stating: “We want a strong Europe, it’s very important to us and whichever way we can do it the best and more efficient would be something we both want,” the statement came shortly after he was greeted by President Macron.

He also stated however that Europe needs to be fair when it comes to sharing the burden of defense with the United States.

In a tweet on Friday Mr. Trump claimed that he was “insulted” by French President Emmanuel Macron’s comments that Europe should decrease its dependence on the U.S. for security and when asked what he meant by this President Trump replied “We want to help Europe but it has to be fair. Right now the burden sharing has been largely on the United States.”
