Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Coveney has said it is a crucial week for Brexit negotiations and that he was cautious about the levels of expectation for a breakthrough.

He said the Government has been very clear in terms of what Ireland needs from the process and negotiating teams were working to try to ensure that EU and Irish interests are protected, and also that there is a basis of agreement that can be supported by a British government.

Mr Coveney said it was hard to tell whether agreement could be reached this week.
