The United Nations has warned that a combination of accelerating climate shocks, land abuses and exploitation of water sources worldwide is beginning to hinder humanity’s ability to feed itself.
The UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change released a global assessment report in Geneva earlier today.
The assessment revealed that, unless there is a transformation in the way the world produces food and manages land, it will be impossible to keep global temperatures at a safe level.
The report proposed that a shift towards vegetarian and vegan diets would help curb the rise in temperatures as it would reduce emissions from agriculture and food production.
However, in a country like Ireland, where the economy is quite reliant on dairy and beef production, is this switch in diets a viable solution?
