The Courts Service has released figures showing that one in every three motorists prosecuted for drink driving do not get convicted.

Kildare had the highest rate of convictions at 85%, whereas Waterford had only 44% in what can only be described as a severely inconsistent rate of prosecutions nationwide.

The Road Safety Authority has called on An Garda Síochána, the Courts Service and the Department of Justice to investigate the reasons for such differences.
